Elizabeth O’Brien is a founding member of the firm and her practice focuses on civil litigation, appeals, personal injury, family law, including guardianships and adoption and criminal law. Liz represents a variety of companies and individuals, both counseling in preventative litigation measures as well as prosecuting and defending claims made on behalf of clients as well as those made against them. The matters Liz is involved with include, breach of contract, employment law, construction defect and mechanics liens, employment law, personal injury and civil rights; her criminal law practice entails both defending those who have been accused as well as representing victims of crime and assisting them from the initial reporting to shepherding them through the entire criminal court process. She also represents clients in administrative hearings before the State Labor Commissioners, the Department of Labor, the Employment Development Department and the Department of Motor Vehicles. Liz’s trial experience makes her uniquely qualified to take a case from pre-litigation through jury trial and if necessary through an appeals process.

Prior to joining the firm, Mrs. O’Brien was a Deputy District Attorney for the Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office, where she reviewed, evaluated and tried a variety of misdemeanor and felony cases. Prior to working as a Deputy District Attorney, she was a law clerk for the Santa Barbara County Counsel’s Office where she focused primarily on defending the County in State, Federal and Appellate Courts. Liz is licensed to practice in all California state, federal and appellate courts.

Liz was raised in Santa Barbara and has an undergraduate degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara. She lived in New York City after her undergraduate degree and then returned to her hometown to receive her J.D. from Santa Barbara College of Law, where she graduated summa cum laude and was the recipient of three Witkin Awards for Academic Excellence and three Thomson Reuters Awards for Scholastic Achievement. Liz is an adjunct professor at the Santa Barbara College of Law, a Grizzly Club member of the Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation and a member of the Santa Barbara County Bar Association. Liz resides in Santa Barbara with her husband and three daughters.
